History Of Craps Craps is a casino game played with dice. The game was derived from a dice game called Hazzard, which in turn is thought to be a descendant of Azzahr. The game of Azzahr originated in Arab countries and eventually made its way to England, where some of the rules were changed and it became known as Hazzard. It was in England (in the early 1700s) that the rules for Hazzard were set. From England, the game was brought to France, where it was enjoyed by many people. In fact, the game was popular in both France and England. The English and French liked the game enough to bring it with them to the Americans. In America, Bernard de Mandeville is thought to have simplified the rules in the game of Hazzard (in 1813). This was when the American version of craps was developed. The simplified rules made craps an easy game for everyone to play and soon the new game was being played in Mississippi river boats, wharfs, and clubs. From there, craps spread to the rest of the country to become a popular game that is played not only in the United States, but also around the world. However, Mandeville's version of craps had a flaw and the game was vulnerable to the use of fixed dice. This flaw was because of betting rules and the problem was solved by a dice maker named John H. Winn. He introduced the choice for players to bet with or against the shooter. He also placed a space for 'don't pass' bets. With these adjustments that he made, the whole game of craps was revolutionized. With the elimination of the use of fixed dice and the opportunity for players to bet for or against the roller, craps became even more popular. There are some people who think that the game craps originated from soldiers of the Roman Legions. These soldiers were known to have played with pig knuckle bones that were shaped into cubes during the time of the Holy Roman Empire. For their entertainment, they used to roll the bones on their shields. In the World War II era (1939-1945), soldiers used to play craps (as it is played today) for entertainment purposes. This was a great means for the soldiers to get a break from the monotony of the war. With the growth in its popularity in the gambling world, many movies too started incorporating craps in their story line. In the 1990s, craps lost its popularity to slots and other casino games. It was only recently that craps staged a comeback in the gambling world. It was mainly the ability of playing craps at online casinos that contributed to the return of craps popularity with gamblers. Craps is a French pronunciation of the word crabs, which means a pair of ones. Craps is played in two versions; street craps and bank craps. Street craps is played on the streets where a shooter establishes a point and aims at making that point. Betting here is made either for or against the shooter where one has to cover the bet to continue the game. Bank craps is the form of craps that is known to everyone. It is played in casinos where the casino banks the game while the players play against the house. It is the casino that covers all the bets of the players. Though craps may seem to be confusing to play at first and difficult to grasp, once you understand the game and get a hang of it, it is rather easy to follow and play. history of baccarat history of bingo history of blackjack history of craps history of in-between history of keno history of mahjong history of poker history of pai gow poker history of video poker history of roshambo history of roulette history of sic bo history of slot machines history of solitaire online casinos site index online poker
