History Of Roulette The history of roulette is varied with different people having different ideas to its history. Some people say that it was in the early 17th century that the concept of roulette was devised by a French mathematician of France. It was said that the mathematician, Blaise Pascal of France was looking for perpetual motion with perpetual motion devices. With this fascination, he had engineered a big wheel for his experiments. His friends then suggested using this wheel for gambling. There is also another legend about Francois Blance who founded the first casino in Monte Carlo. It is said that he had sold his soul to the devil to learn the secret of roulette. This may prove to be too far fetched to believe. However, on summing the numbers on the roulette wheel, you get a total of 666. Remember, 666 is the number of the beast. Then there are other historians who infer that roulette was developed in China and that it was Christian Monks that brought roulette to Europe when trading with the Chinese merchants. Whatever its origin, it is the French who are credited with the development of the type of roulette that eventually evolved into the roulette games found in casinos today. It was in the 18th century that roulette became a popular game because the Prince of Monaco, Prince Charles enjoyed playing it. It was with the intention of reducing the economic distress of the kingdom that Prince Charles introduced roulette to his kingdom in Monaco. Though roulette was played in casinos for some time, it was only in 1842 that fellow Frenchmen Francois and Louis Blanc had added the '0' to the roulette wheel with the intention of providing a house advantage in the game. When roulette was brought to the US in the early 1800s, a second zero '00' was introduced to the roulette wheel. With this addition, the house odds in the game were increased. Some of the early roulette wheels of America had this double zero replaced by an American Eagle. With the spread of roulette all over Europe and US in the 1800s, it became one of the most popular and sought after casino games. The most well known games in roulette today are American roulette wheel and the European roulette wheel. These games are similar in nature but have different rules and payouts. The color of the chips is one difference in them, while the other version is that the dealer uses a stick to swipe away chips in the European version of the game while Americans only use their hands. In fact, some people call roulette the 'King of Casino Games' as it is associated with the glamour of the casinos found in Monte Carlo. Today all the casinos in the world have a roulette wheel which is one of the more famous games in casinos. The main reason roulette has grown so much in popularity is because it is very simple and easy to play, and both exciting and thrilling. Payouts can be high but the game is pure luck.
